The Minnesota Twins have found themselves in a place they did not envision last year when they started to blow up their team at the trade deadline: leading the AL Central with a record of 11-9.
Sports Illustrated’s Ryan Shea proposes the Twins ride this success, and make a deal with the Miami Marlins for their Cy Young, Sandy Alcantara. Getting Alcantara paired up with Joe Ryan and Taj Bradley could give the Twins one of the best front ends of the rotation in baseball.
The trade would look like this:
Twins get: RHP Sandy Alcantara
Marlins get: MLB No. 47 overall prospect SS Kaelen Culpepper, MLB No. 66 overall prospect OF Emmanuel Rodriguez, MIN No. 5 prospect LHP Connor Prielipp
“Adding Sandy Alcantara would give them a proven frontline starter who can anchor the pitching staff, shorten games, and significantly improve their chances of sustaining their early-season success into a postseason run. From Minnesota’s perspective, this is a clear win-now move. Instead of waiting for long-term development, they would be converting future talent into immediate major-league impact while their playoff window is open,” Shea wrote.
So far this season, Alcantara has been on the war path for a second Cy Young award. He’s posted a 2-1 record, a 2.67 ERA, 22 Ks, and a WHIP of 0.857 over 30 innings pitched.
If the Twins were able to add that to their rotation, they could have a great shot at winning the AL Central. Hopefully, they realize that and get Alcantara on their roster as soon as possible.
