Los Angeles Dodgers closer Edwin Diaz, who will be out for months, made a social media post in the aftermath of his elbow surgery.

Diaz found himself on the injured list with an elbow injury after a rough outing against the Colorado Rockies. He gave up three hits and a walk, resulting in three earned runs on just 13 pitches.

He went through successful surgery for the loose bodies found in his elbow, according to a story from his wife, Nashlay Diaz, who said, “Thank God Edwin came out of surgery well. It was a success.”

“Now come back strong,” Edwin Diaz wrote on his Instagram story.

The righty signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the Dodgers to be the closer, helping to ease their bullpen issues from the 2025 season and help put other relievers in less pressured roles.

His addition led to Tanner Scott moving into the setup role, and then, every other reliever gets a less high-leverage spot.

What went wrong for Edwin Diaz?

Diaz got off to a stellar start, allowing just two hits and two walks during his first three appearances.

His stuff looked really good as well, getting six strikeouts, but he suffered two bad outings, the one against the Rockies and another against the Texas Rangers.

He had nine days in between his Rockies and Rangers outings as he was checked out by the team and threw a bullpen session.

The team was confident enough to roll him out again, but a second consecutive blow-out appearance led to further examination, and they found a problem with his elbow.

The Dodgers seemingly knew something was not right with Diaz, immediately having him checked out, and unfortunately, they did find problems with his elbow, the part of a pitcher’s arm that is most taxed.

“Yeah, well, obviously we all saw, you know, the stuff last night [against the Rockies], and it was set up, you know, red flags. And so after the game, he had a conversation with our training staff and felt that he had some elbow discomfort and kind of looking at, you know, what was going on last night,” manager Dave Roberts said.

“So we just wanted to be proactive and felt that it was smart to get an MRI, get imaging, which we did do. And it showed loose bodies. And so it happens with players. And so it just kind of came to a head last night. And so we felt get the surgery scheduled and expect a second-half return.”

With Diaz now done with surgery, he can start the long road to recovery, which should have him back around July, assuming everything goes according to plan.
