Jim Furyk will captain the U.S. Ryder Cup in 2027 at Adare Manor in Ireland.
Golfweek’s Adam Schupak reported Friday that the PGA of America selected Furyk to lead Team USA next fall, marking his second captaincy. His first go-round did not end well for the U.S. — a 17½ to 10½ loss to the Europeans after which many fans called his decisions into question. But he’s taking the reins once again, hoping to reverse his fortunes and lead the U.S. to its first Ryder Cup win on foreign soil since 1993.
Of course, anytime Ryder Cup news gets announced, the golf world fires up the social media machine and fires off some takes. The Furyk selection has garnered a variety of reactions, with some defending the pick and many lamenting it.
Social media reacts to Jim Furyk being selected as U.S. Ryder Cup captain
Much of the social media reaction to the news that Furyk has been tabbed for a second Ryder Cup captaincy was quite negative. Many fans and media members expressed frustration over the selection process, while some are already congratulating Europe on a third straight victory.

Really all you need to know about his prior captaincy

I’m starting to think the PGA of America might not have much of a plan here https://t.co/OIj00c9RD9

Any time you can run it back with a guy who lost by 7.5 the last time he was captain, you just gotta do it.
One of the most important Ryder Cups ever for the U.S. team to fight back and start building a new Ryder Cup identity.
Nothing against Furyk personally but come on man,… https://t.co/L7xCM8PE6E

The PGA of America and powers that be tapping Jim Furyk for U.S. captain for ‘27 is mind numbing.
The same man whose team got eviscerated in France in ‘18 who has been staffed on many more losing teams.
The Boys Club will never, ever die.

Is Furyk a good choice? Nope.
Were there clearly better options? Nope.
Does the PGA of America have a plan to address this? Nope!
Excited for Ireland!

Hope he has better Captain’s picks than 2018 when those guys went a combined 2-10. 🇺🇸 https://t.co/yd1jxRNY3Z

Needing some juice after an embarrassing loss at Bethpage, facing a European captain that’s won 2 in a row, on the road, and we turn to a guy who presided over a blowout loss 8 years ago.
Sure. https://t.co/qPfEvv2zLo

There were, however, a good amount of people defending the pick. Some say Furyk will learn from his mistakes in 2018 to be better this time around and some say there simply weren’t many good options, while others believe the captaincy is largely irrelevant and that team culture is the real issue on the U.S. side.
/whispering — I like the Furyk choice.
(This is also perhaps a reflection of a shallow bench and limited good options?)

*peeks over the wall of takes*
I think Furyk was the best option…

The appointment of Jim Furyk makes sense. There didn’t seem to be too many options for the US job, and he’s got away (albeit losing) experience.
I feel like Keegan Bradley deserves a second go, though. Clearly very passionate, and we’ve all see how key continuity is… 🇺🇸

Furyk is a great selection.
Anyone who thinks otherwise is entitled to their wrong opinion. #USA

I like it, Furyk is well respected, has a great knowledge of the game. Hopefully he has the fire to motivate the team to their first win outside America since 1993. https://t.co/eamy2OATdr

Furyk’s team got spanked in Rome, but I’m coming around to the idea that who’s captaining doesn’t matter that much.
The US has no dawgs.
They don’t lean into the team format or get up emotionally nearly as much as Europe does.

And then, of course, there were some who were just here for the jokes.
the U.S. Ryder Cup captaincy should be a two-person job: Fred Couples paired with the smartest data scientist you’ve never heard of. he’d trail about four feet behind Freddie at all times, maybe attached by a small rope

Jim Furyk accepting the 2027 Ryder Cup captaincy is the golf equivalent of that scene in an action movie when the grizzled ex-operative is sitting on his porch, finally at peace, when a black SUV rolls up the gravel drive. Furyk doesn’t even turn around. “No.” The suit gets out…
