How does WR Germie Bernard fit on the Steelers roster?

After missing out on wide receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers didn’t want to have something like that happen again in the second round. So the Steelers pulled off a trade with the Indianapolis Colts to go up and select Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard.

In thinking about where Bernard fits on the roster, it’s fairly straightforward. Bernard does everything on the field, offers a ton of scheme and formation versatility and really only lacks elite deep speed. With DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. in the fold, Bernard slides right in as the team’s No. 3 wide receiver and a guy who can line up anywhere.

Bernard could even see reps in the backfield as a sort of H-back player. We compared Bernard to Deebo Samuel throughout this process and that’s the sort of impact the Steelers should expect. He will be able to split wide and let Metcalf or Pittman slide into the slot where they can take advantage of mismatches in coverage.
