McDonough sixth Cyclone to sign UDFA deal

Tamatoa McDonough, a defensive lineman originally from Asheville, North Carolina, made an immediate and significant impact as a graduate transfer for Iowa State during the 2025 season.

His most notable performance occurred during the rivalry game against Iowa, where he sealed the Cyclones’ victory by recording two sacks on the final drive. This dominant display earned him Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Throughout the 2025 campaign, McDonough was a consistent force on the defensive line, appearing in all 12 games and earning 10 starts. He finished the season with a total of 26 tackles, four of which were for a loss, and two sacks. Another highlight of his season included a three-tackle performance against BYU where he also forced a fumble.

Following his collegiate career, McDonough agreed to a minicamp invitation to join the Denver Broncos.

In Denver, McDonough joins a growing contingent of former Iowa State standouts. This includes Eyioma Uwazurike and Tyler Onyedim, who was recently selected as the 66th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
