Coming off four straight postseason appearances, the Philadelphia Phillies came into the 2026 season looking to make it their fifth straight. However, this team has had trouble getting anything started this year.
They lost Ranger Suarez over the offseason and started the new year without Zack Wheeler, as he was recovering from thoracic outlet syndrome, so the starting rotation has been shaky.
On the offensive side of things, while Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber are doing well, others are not doing much. They hold the second-worst team batting average at .219, only a few points off the Cincinnati Reds‘ .213.

Phillies fans won’t like seeing where their team sits in latest power rankings
While the season is still early, it’s certainly worth worrying about this team. They look like a shell of themselves and are being buried in the division by the Atlanta Braves.
If something doesn’t change soon, they could dig themselves too deep a hole to climb out of. And with their latest performance last week, Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller tags the Phillies as the worst team in baseball in his latest power rankings.
“It’s still early, but it also might be time to start thinking about what the Phillies might be willing and able to sell at the trade deadline.”
Miller suggests it may be time for the front office to start considering which pieces they would be willing to part ways with ahead of the deadline. This isn’t what the fans want to hear, but it is something they should prepare themselves for.
At this point, they are one of two teams, the New York Mets being the other, that have a 10.5 gap between them and the first-place team in the division. And with how the Braves have been looking lately, it’s going to be difficult to close that gap.
