Fenerbahçe accept Victor Osimhen’s brutal verdict, axe Tedesco after Galatasaray loss

Fenerbahçe have sacked head coach Domenico Tedesco after a damaging 3-0 defeat to fierce rivals Galatasaray, a result that all but ended their hopes of winning the Süper Lig title this season, Afrik-Foot reports.

The loss at Rams Park left Fenerbahçe seven points behind at the top of the table with only three matches remaining, effectively closing the door on their title ambitions. The club acted swiftly, also parting company with sporting director Devin Özek and football coordinator Berke Çelebi as part of a wider shake-up.

In an official statement, Fenerbahçe confirmed:

<blockquote class=”wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow”>

“We have parted ways with our Technical Director Domenico Tedesco and his technical staff. It has also been decided to part ways with our Sports Director Devin Özek and our Football Coordinator Berke Çelebi.

“We thank them for their contributions to our club and wish them success in their future careers. Our Assistant Coach Zeki Murat Göle will lead our team onto the field for the remaining matches of the season.”

Tedesco, who only arrived in September 2025 following the exit of José Mourinho, had shown early promise. He won his first two major derbies and led Fenerbahçe to a 2-0 victory over Galatasaray in January 2026 to claim the Turkish Super Cup, the club’s first in 11 years. But with the league title still out of reach since 2014, the derby defeat proved decisive.

Osimhen’s words add fuel to the Fenerbahçe fallout

Much of the reaction after the match centred on Victor Osimhen, whose post-match comments quickly went viral and deepened the pressure on Tedesco.

Speaking after the emphatic win, the Galatasaray striker said:

<blockquote class=”wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow”>

“In the last 3 training sessions, we fought really well. The trainings were even more ambitious, more eager, and more exhausting than this match. With all due respect to the opponent; we got less tired in this match than in training.”

The remark, though wrapped in a polite disclaimer, was widely seen as a sharp dig at Fenerbahçe’s level. It also reflected the intensity instilled by Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk, whose preparation appeared to make a high-stakes derby feel routine.

Turkish analyst Serdar Çelikler described the comment as ‘shameful’ for Fenerbahçe, urging the club to treat it as a wake-up call to rebuild both squad and mentality ahead of next season.

In the end, many believe the ease of Galatasaray’s victory, perfectly captured in Osimhen’s statement, left Fenerbahçe’s board with little choice. The decision to sack Tedesco now signals the start of a crucial summer rebuild, one shaped, in part, by the painful truths laid bare in one unforgettable derby.
