67’ — Joshua Kimmich has a pop from distance, and it hits the post.

65’ — Michael Olise tries to out the ball in the top corner. It goes just wide.

58’ — TOR! Bayern has clawed back a two-goal deficit to make it 2-2.

56’ — Bayern’s corner ends up in nothing after several attempts on goal.

55’ — Kane crosses for Jackson but the latter missed the ball.

52’ — Luis Díaz’s shot is saved by the goalkeeper.

Halftime Observations

  • The whole team looks disjointed. Zero chemistry between them.
  • Bayern attempting the remontada gimmick is starting to get old. Finish off and win the game without needing a comeback. Then again, if it gets them over the line against PSG next week like it did against Real Madrid in the last round, they can do whatever.
  • Having a squad this thin is never a good thing. Forget what they say, quality subs will go a long way.

45+4’ — Halftime.

45’ — Jamal Musiala tries to curl one in but it goes wide. Three minutes added on.

44’ — TOR! Bayern get a goal back before the break.

31’ — Goal. Bayern make a mess of a through lob from Heidenheim and the host find themselves 2-0 down.

27’ — An errant Bayern back pass almost ends up in a Heidenheim goal.

22’ — Goal. Bayern’s center backs don’t track the runner and he scores off the post. Bayern go behind as per.

20’ — Hiroki Itō shoots from outside the box, but the shot goes agonizingly wide.

14’ — Jonathan Tah stops a Heidenheim attack. The visitors have numerous follow up attempts but Bayern deal with it.

7’ — It’s Heidenheim’s turn to stray offside.

4’ — Nicolas Jackson flagged offside for his run in behind the Heidenheim defence.

Kickoff! — We’re off for the first half!

Lineups are out! Vincent Kompany has rolled out what appears to be a team somewhere between B+ and A- level. What’s surprising about this team is that perennial starters Luis Díaz and Joshua Kimmich have dropped down to the bench.

Bayern Munich has its work cut out as the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain ended up in a 5-4 loss for the Bavarians. Next week will be extremely crucial for progressing to the final, but Bayern will host basement boys Heidenheim today.

The last match between the two teams ended in a 4-0 win for the Rekordmeister at Heidenheim’s ground. With Bayern facing a team who was the joint-worst defensive record in the league and an attack that only scored nine more than the worst in the league, this may be a relatively easy outing for them. However, relegation teams are usually motivated, and Heidenheim did win two of their last three games. That’s food for thought.
