Powered by another dazzling performance from Taylor Tobin and timely hits, the W.F. West High School softball team ran their winning streak to nine with a 5-0 triumph over Black Hills on Friday afternoon.
It finishes off a season sweep and the Bearcats (15-2, 11-1 EvCo) also picked up a game on Aberdeen with its loss to Tumwater. They are now two wins away from wrapping up a regular season league title.
“Pedal to the metal,” W.F. West head coach Kevin Zylstra said. “We can’t afford to give that game back.”
Tobin allowed two hits and recorded 11 strikeouts. After outings that saw the pitch count be in triple digits, the junior needed just 81 pitches to toss a complete game. She helped herself in the top of the second with a two-out, two-run single.
Rayah Middleton and Gracie Elam delivered RBIs in the fifth and Middleton had her second sacrifice fly in the seventh. Karlee Coleman had two of her three hits be doubles and Avery Osborn also had two hits. Most of the Bearcats runs came with two outs.
“It boils down to confidence,” Zylstra said. “Doesn’t matter who it is, they all can step in and do it.”
Up next for W.F. West is the third meeting with Tumwater on Monday back in Thurston County.
