Three quick takeaways from LSU baseball’s win over South Carolina

William Schmidt got the start on the mound today as LSU baseball looked to get back in the win column against a conference opponent. Schmidt shoved the Gamecocks into a locker, finishing the game after six full innings of work. He only allowed one run on five hits, seven strikeouts, and one walk.

Grant Fontenot entered to pitch for the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings, and he did not allow any runs as he slammed the door on South Carolina. The Tiger bats came through by scoring six runs on eight hits, led by Stephen Milam and William Patrick, who both went 2-for-4.

The win was LSU’s first in conference play since April 5. Here are three quick takeaways from the win.

William Schmidt delivered for LSU

After the rainout on Friday, Schmidt got the start for the Tigers in game one, and he had a great game. Six full innings of work, and he only gave up one run on five hits, seven strikeouts, and a walk. His spectacular pitching helped get LSU back in the win column against an SEC opponent.

Steven Milam is a human highlight reel

Do y’all remember when everyone was hating on Stephen Milam at the start of the season? He is hitting .286 this season and has been playing fantastic defense at shortstop. He has been a pillar of the LSU defense.

Great game for Grant

Grant Fontenot entered the game in the top of the seventh inning, and he showed out. Grant pitched three full innings and did not allow any runs on only one hit, four strikeouts, and zero walks.
