It’s time to vote for the Morris/Sussex Athlete of the Week!

Read about the performances that stood out and let us know who you think should be the Athlete of the Week in the poll at the bottom of this page.

Nominations were provided by coaches and are presented in alphabetical order. Voting closes at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Walter Hedblom-Green

Boonton senior jumper/thrower

Hedblom-Green was part of the javelin, long jump, triple jump and high jump relays at Morris County Relays, helping to score 32 points as Boonton claimed the small-schools title. The Bombers won the high jump and javelin – as Hedblom-Green threw 185-11 to qualify for New Balance Nationals – and were third in the long and triple.

Kara Herre

Parsippany Hills freshman midfielder 

Herre totaled 10 goals, three assists, eight draw controls and nine ground balls as the Vikings beat Newark Academy in overtime and Morris Hills, 12-11. Against the Scarlet Knights, Herre scored the game winner with eight seconds left.

Sofia Kearns

Villa Walsh senior midfielder

Kearns totaled 10 goals and seven assists, six draw controls, six ground balls and caused seven turnovers as the Vikings defeated St. Elizabeth and West Orange.

Cynthia Kovacs

Hackettstown sophomore midfielder

Kovacs had two assists, eight ground balls, four draw controls and 11 caused turnovers as Hackettstown lost to Vernon in the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament and defeated Morris Catholic.

Isabella Sisto

Hackettstown sophomore distance runner

Sisto won the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex 3,200 meters in 11:05.67, breaking her own school record by 16 seconds.
