Ex-Super Eagles star reveales what Fulham missed in Iwobi’s absence against Arsenal

Iwobi’s Absence Exposes Fulham’s Midfield Weakness in Arsenal Defeat

Former Super Eagles and Brentford defender Sam Sodje has highlighted a crucial element Fulham FC missed in Alex Iwobi’s absence during their clash against Arsenal FC.

Iwobi, who recently turned 30, will not feature again this season after suffering a hamstring injury in Fulham’s match against Brentford FC two weeks ago.

Without the versatile midfielder, Fulham struggled to cope as Arsenal dominated proceedings at the Emirates Stadium. Viktor Gyökeres delivered a standout performance, scoring twice and assisting Bukayo Saka in a commanding display.

What Fulham Missed Without Iwobi

Sodje emphasized that Iwobi’s greatest strength lies in his discipline and tactical awareness, rather than just raw ability. His ability to follow structure and execute a manager’s plan has made him a reliable figure across multiple teams.

According to Sodje, Fulham lacked stability in midfield at the Emirates, making them easy to break down. Iwobi’s presence usually provides balance, experience, and control—qualities that were clearly missing against Arsenal.

“Iwobi has always been a player that plays to a structure, and I think that’s why he has got so many managers that really like him,” Sodje said.

He further praised the midfielder’s growth and consistency over the years, noting that his development in English football has shaped him into a dependable and experienced player.

“His discipline of how to play to a system has made him the player he has become… we have to give him a lot of respect.”

Fulham’s European Hopes Fading

Fulham’s recent form has taken a hit, with just two wins in their last seven league matches. Their dip in performance comes at a crucial stage of the season, as they risk falling out of contention for a UEFA Europa League spot.

With Iwobi sidelined, Marco Silva’s side faces an uphill battle to regain momentum before the campaign concludes.
