Ohio State Buckeyes wide receiver Jeremiah Smith returns to Columbus for his third season this fall. In doing so, the anticipation for where he may end up in the NFL Draft next spring is beginning to reach unfathomable anticipation levels.
That’s at least according to NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay, who has spoken highly of Smith’s potential in Columbus since his on-campus arrival a little over two years ago.
McShay went as far as to say his game reminds him of legendary ex-Detroit Lions wideout Calvin Johnson, taking his stance a step forward to go beyond his potential to be a top-5 pick (or No. 1).
“I literally think he can be the best wide receiver of all time,” McShay said on his podcast, the “McShay Show,” about Smith. “He could be the best wide receiver in the history of the National Football League. I want you to think about that. I’m fired up and now he has a quarterback in his second year.”

That quarterback is Julian Sayin, who succeeded Will Howard this past season and helped lead the Buckeyes to the College Football Playoff before a Cotton Bowl loss to the Miami Hurricanesended their season (and a possible national title repeat).
With a clean slate, Smith’s chances for revenge are on the table once again this fall.
“Now, all of the coverage in the whole world is going to be all over him,” McShay said. “But he’ll get his spots and I can’t wait to see him in the league.”

We’ll see just how far Smith’s potential carries him. But, so far, it’s a great start. Should McShay be right, Smith could join some rare company.
