The winner of last week’s Boys Athlete of the Week poll was Old Rochester’s Malik Washburn. He had more than 3,000 votes (57%) to receive the honor.
At the Mercury Games Invitational, Washburn won the 110 hurdles with a school-record time of 14.31 seconds, which ranks No. 1 in the state. He also placed second in the triple jump, tying his own school record of 43-10.
Previous winners were Old Colony’s Rowan Caulkins, New Bedford’s Jonah Wahnon and Old Rochester’s Chase DeMello.
The winner of the Preseason Boys Lacrosse Player of the Year poll was New Bedford’s Logan Alves with more than 38,000 votes (44%). The winner of the Preseason Boys Volleyball Player of the Year poll was GNB Voc-Tech’s Chace Garcia with more than 3,000 votes (55%).

Thorell came in first in the high jump and 400 against GNB Voc-Tech.

Washburn took first in the 110 hurdles and triple jump against GNB Voc-Tech.

Against South Shore Voc-Tech, Pires won the shot put, javelin and discus.
