The Philadelphia 76ers dropped Game 1 of their series against the New York Knicks after being blown out, and they were looking to Game 2 to get back on track.

But things aren’t looking promising with the report from ESPN’s Shams Charania that Joel Embiid is going to be out for Wednesday night’s game against the Knicks.

After playing in Game 1, Embiid is now out in Game 2. Why is the 76ers star out for this pivotal Game 2? Well, Embiid isn’t dealing with just one injury; he’s got two ailments holding him back at the moment.

Why Joel Embiid is out tonight vs. Knick

“Just in: Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid has been ruled out for Game 2 tonight against the New York Knicks due to ankle and hip injuries, sources tell ESPN,” Charania reports.

This is a big blow for the 76ers, as they’re now going to be without a key player in Embiid for Game 2 to try to avoid falling to a 2-0 deficit.

Embiid has been nursing a few injuries since his return from an appendectomy. But late in the series against the Boston Celtics, he sustained a leg injury, which has led to this current injury.

He will miss this Game 2 matchup in New York thanks to hip and ankle injuries, despite initially being listed as probable the day before.

Since returning this postseason for the 76ers, Embiid is averaging 25.2 points per game along with 8.0 rebounds and 5.8 assists per game while averaging 34.2 minutes.

Between his abdomen, hip, and ankle injuries, Embiid is going to sit out Game 2 against the Knicks, as the 76ers will have to hope for Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe to take over as they did during Game 2 of the Celtics series without Embiid.
