The Los Angeles Rams have had a bit of a strange offseason, with plenty of worrisome storylines about their offense, mainly with Puka Nacua, Davante Adams, and most recently, Matthew Stafford, after the Ty Simpson pick.
But, despite some strange happenings this offseason, the Rams did address their biggest issue from last year in the form of two moves to acquire Trent McDuffie and Jaylen Watson.
ESPN’s Sarah Bishop identified cornerback as the team’s most improved position this offseason, and it couldn’t be more obvious as to why.
“The Rams went into the offseason knowing there would be significant turnover at the position, as the team had four pending free agents at cornerback,” Bishop writes. “Los Angeles invested heavily at the position in March, trading for Trent McDuffie and signing Jaylen Watson to a three-year deal.”
The Rams’ most improved position this offseason was their cornerback room. And they were only able to make such a massive upgrade to this position group thanks to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Rams have Chiefs to thank for CB room upgrades
This offseason, following the disastrous end to 2025 in which the Rams’ cornerbacks couldn’t slow down Sam Darnold, the Rams knew they needed CB help.
Fortunately, the Chiefs were not just willing to let Watson hit free agency, which wound up as a nice signing for the Rams, but they were willing to trade McDuffie as well.
While the Rams surely could’ve found alternatives to their cornerback room this offseason, they were able to reunite teammates on the Chiefs, who helped KC win two Super Bowls, in L.A. in the Rams secondary.

It was a huge issue for the Rams last year, and now, they’ve added McDuffie and Watson thanks to the Chiefs letting both go – one via free agency and the other via trade.
The Chiefs played a big role in the Rams upgrading their CB room, which is their most improved position this offseason.
While it’s odd for Rams fans to thank the Chiefs, this situation warrants at least some appreciation for the Chiefs’ willingness to rebuild their defense.
