Colts reaffirm commitment to Anthony Richardson Sr.

The Indianapolis Colts are staying patient with young quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. Richardson lost the starting quarterback battle with Daniel Jones last season after a training camp battle, and has requested a trade from the organization for a chance at a fresh start, but Indianapolis is taking time to assess how to proceed with its former first-round pick.

“We’ll have a little patience here and see what happens,” general manager Chris Ballard said of seeing what develops from the trade request, per Pro Football Talk. “We’ll let it play out as it does over time.”

On Monday, Richardson reported to Indianapolis’ voluntary offseason program after staying away for the first two weeks, and the franchise is ready to support Richardson and get to work with him for as long as he is a member of the team.

“Anthony showed up here ready to work this week and, shoot, we’re gonna get some good work out of him and try to get him better and get him opportunities to go work his drills and get some throws and all that good stuff,” offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter said.

Jones, who is working his way back from an Achilles injury, is the franchise quarterback moving forward, but the rep split between Richardson and Riley Leonard will need to be worked out.

“We work through how we want to do that thing,” Cooter said. “Who’s with what group is not any sort of news I’m trying to break here today, but guys are out there getting work. There’s reps to go all around. There’s throws to make. There’s reps to get in drills. Those guys are all part of the thing and getting reps.”
