There may not have been a position more in need of improving than the Minnesota Vikings‘ No. 3 WR spot.
Enter Jauan Jennings, the free agent from the San Francisco 49ers.
Jennings agreed to sign with the Vikings on a one-year contract for $13 million, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who reported the news Thursday evening.
The Vikings have a potentially new quarterback, Kyler Murray, who will compete with J.J. McCarthy for the right to throw to what is now a really compelling receiver group.
No one was questioning superstar Justin Jefferson leading this group.
The other outside wideout, Jordan Addison, is a rising star, as well.
Beyond them? It was shaping up to be quite ugly before this move. Now? It looks pretty great.

Vikings WR depth chart
This is how it might look now that Jennings has signed:
- Justin Jefferson
- Jordan Addison
- Jauan Jennings
- Tai Felton
The key issue here is that Jalen Nailor left this offseason to sign with the New Orleans Saints. He was a reliable third receiver.
And before signing Jennings, the Vikings hadn’t done anything to fill that. Felton wasn’t ideal, but he was the only other WR on the Minnesota roster who had either been drafted or caught a pass in the NFL.
There’s still inexperience beyond Felton, and maybe there’s still another signing to come here beyond this.
But the Jennings move will go down as the big one, and now the Vikings have three very proven NFL wideouts to catch passes from Murray.
