The jokes would definitely write themselves.

MetLife Stadium, the home of the New York Giants and New York Jets, on fire? Yeah, that’s some low-hanging fruit for anyone who wants to mock the Giants and the Jets.

Images circulating on social media on Friday certainly made it look like a real scene:

There was a fire, but it’s not exactly what it looks like.

Is MetLife Stadium on fire?

No, the NFL stadium isn’t actually on fire.

Here’s a look from the sky:

NJ.com’s Victoria Gladstone got to the bottom of things:

“A large fire is blowing thick clouds of black smoke over a small town in Bergen County. Police said the fire in Carlstadt is ‘under control’ but actively being fought.”

Gladstone writes that it’s a building fire located less than three miles from MetLife Stadium.

So that explains the photograph — taken from the side angle, the smoke can look like it’s actually coming from the football stadium itself, but in reality, it’s just a few miles beyond.
