In a statistic that doesn’t seem real, Iowa State’s TJ Otzelberger has snagged six top in-state recruits from Greg Gard.
The Wisconsin Badgers just missed out on Donovan Davis, who is yet another top Wisconsin native to choose the Cyclones over the Badgers.
Since Otzelberger took over in 2021, ISU has earned commitments from Tyrese Hunter, Milan Momcilovic, Jamarion Batemon, Xzavion Mitchell, Usef Gray, and now Davis.
Those recruits played high school ball at Racine, Pewaukee, Milwaukee, Oshkosh, West Allis, and Freedom. Remember, Otzelberger is a Milwaukee native who played at Saint Thomas More.
There’s no doubt NIL has a huge say in these decisions, but that’s still something that needs to be addressed behind the scenes. Gard can only do so much, and Wisconsin doesn’t seem to even be competitive in some of these battles.
Until that changes, top in-state players are going to keep playing elsewhere. Keep in mind, this list of six players doesn’t even include the likes of Patrick Baldwin Jr., Kon Knueppel, Dooney Johnson, Seth Trimble, among many more.
