Neymar’s Brazil future has become one of the country’s sharpest World Cup debates, with the final squad due on 18 May.
He has not played for the national team since suffering a serious knee injury in October 2023, and Carlo Ancelotti has not recalled him since he took his role as head coach.
That uncertainty has split fans, media and former players, but Ronaldinho has now made clear where he stands on the Santos ace.
Ronaldinho leaves no doubt over Neymar call-up
Ronaldinho was interviewed by fellow 2002 World Cup winner Denilson on Esporte Espetacular, and the question around Neymar was put to him directly.
Denilson said he believes Brazil cannot afford to leave Neymar out. Ronaldinho immediately agreed, showing no hesitation over a call-up if the 34-year-old is fit.
“I also think [there’s no way to leave Neymar out of the World Cup]. With all due respect to everyone, but he’s the best of them all,” the former Barcelona No. 10 began by saying.
“For me, it would only be possible [to not call him up] if he has injury problems. Now, if he’s fit, there’s no way [to leave him out].”
Neymar has three Santos games left
Neymar still has three Santos matches before Ancelotti names the list. Santos host RB Bragantino, visit Coritiba in the Brazilian Cup, then host Coritiba in Serie A.
The cup tie remains alive after a 0-0 first leg, giving the former PSG standout another high-pressure stage to prove rhythm, sharpness and durability.
Estevao’s injury has been seen as a possible boost to Neymar, although reports differ over whether it really creates a direct pathway back into Ancelotti’s squad. The Chelsea youngster keeps his hopes of appearing in the tournament alive.
His chances still appear thin, but Ronaldinho’s message strengthens the emotional argument. If Neymar is fit, Brazil’s most gifted player still has powerful backing.
