The Pittsburgh Steelers announced the jersey numbers for their 2026 NFL Draft class, but one standout rookie apparently may not keep the odd selection he was given.
Steelers rookie fourth-round wide receiver Kaden Wetjen — one of the best return specialists in all of college football over the past few years — was given the No. 42 jersey. But he made it clear on social media this bizarre number choice won’t stay for long.
“Don’t worry folks, we will have a new number for the [season, for sure],” Wetjen wrote via an Instagram story.
During his three-year collegiate career at Iowa, Wetjen wore No. 21, which is currently worn by Steelers running back Travis Homer. Given the Steelers’ loaded running back room in 2026, Homer may likely find himself competing for a roster spot, potentially putting his jersey number back up for grabs.
Wetjen recently signed his rookie deal with the Steelers, along with five other players from the team’s 2026 NFL Draft class, which fans can read more about here.
