Manchester United are preparing to enter into negotiations with Michael Carrick regarding his appointment as the club’s permanent head coach. Carrick has secured 10 wins from 15 matches since taking charge in January, suffering just two defeats.
The 44-year-old guided United back into the UEFA Champions League with three games to spare, and it is understood that club executives are expected to recommend he be handed the position on a full-time basis.
Carrick has been the overwhelming frontrunner for the role for quite some time. United will conduct formal discussions regarding his future ahead of the final Premier League game of the season against Brighton on May 24, as per
Negotiations between United and Carrick will encompass arrangements for his support staff to remain in place. The club considers Carrick’s backroom team to possess a well-rounded mix of abilities and personalities, and those who have witnessed their coaching sessions at Carrington have noted a strong chemistry among the group.
“I love doing what I’m doing. It’s a great position for me to be in. It feels pretty natural, if I’m totally honest with that,” said Carrick after beating Liverpool to secure Champions League qualification.
