Emma Raducanu is getting closer to making her return to tennis after more than two months out of action.
Raducanu had been dealing with the effects of a post-viral infection when she pulled out of the Italian Open. Earlier in the season, she also missed the Miami Open due to illness.
The Linz Open was another tournament that Raducanu was unable to play in, adding to her extended break from the WTA Tour.
But signs are positive that Raducanu will be back on court soon. She hasn’t played since Indian Wells back in March, but a return later this month looks increasingly likely.
Emma Raducanu receives wildcard for Strasbourg WTA 500
Emma Raducanu has been handed a wildcard entry into the Strasbourg Open, set to take place from 17–23 May on clay.
The 21-year-old has dropped to No. 297 in the rankings during her time away and will be making her first appearance since March.
Raducanu has split her season evenly so far, holding a record of seven wins and seven losses from 14 matches played.
The event sits between the Italian Open and Roland Garros on the calendar, giving players a final chance to tune up ahead of the French Open.
The field includes Madison Keys, Hailey Baptiste, Emma Navarro and Iva Jovic from the United States. Also confirmed are Ekaterina Alexandrova, Leylah Fernandez and Maya Joint among others.
Raducanu looks to restart season after injury layoff
This season has been another difficult stretch for Raducanu, with ongoing fitness concerns making it hard for her to build any consistency.
It’s a pattern that’s followed her throughout her career, despite reaching the top 10 and picking up one WTA title along the way.
Incredibly, that lone title came at the 2021 US Open, where she beat Fernandez in a memorable final.
There’s still hope she can turn things around this year. The upcoming Strasbourg event gives her a chance to get some matches under her belt before Roland Garros.
Raducanu hasn’t found much success at the French Open so far. She exited in the second round in both of her previous appearances there, in 2022 and 2025.
