Falfurrias and Orange Grove each used late-inning rallies Thursday night to secure Game 1 victories in their regional semifinal series.
Derek Vasquez hit a walk-off grand slam to give the Jerseys a 6-5 win against Marion in the Class 3A Division I regional semifinals. The Jerseys trailed 5-2 before loading the bases and winning on Vasquez’s big swing.
Orange Grove scored five runs in the seventh to secure a 9-8 walk-off victory against Lytle in Game 1 of the Class 3A Division II regional semifinals.
The Bulldogs trailed 8-4 before a hit-by-pitch, a walk and two singles. Orange Grove scored the winning run on a bases-loaded walk drawn by Trace Fowler.
Orange Grove continues its series with Lytle at 7 p.m. Friday, May 15, in Kenedy. Falfurrias and Marion will play Game 2 at 6 p.m. Friday, May 15, at Riverside Stadium in Victoria.
