Rangers are currently in talks to bring Zalaegerszegi centre-back Akpe Victory to the Ibrox club, according to reports. Rangers manager Danny Rohl is looking to strengthen at the back to launch a better shot at the Scottish Premiership title next term. The 6ft 5in 19-year-old Nigerian is also on the radar of clubs in Germany, Spain and France, but the Light Blues are close to making an offer to bring him to Scotland. The Rangers target has played 15 times this season and is also wanted by Benfica.
However, Victory could be reuniting with fellow Nigerian Emmanuel Fernandez at the Ibrox club and fans will hope he makes a similar impact. The teenage sensation is under contract at the Hungarian club until 2028, but there is an option for another year. Fernandez joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer and has notched seven goals in 32 games in his debut season so far. The 24-year-old has become a Nigerian international since joining the Light Blues and Victory will hope for similar success at country level.
Rangers were in the title race for the Scottish Premiership in the first phase of the season but dropped out following four defeats in the opening four games of the second phase against the other teams in the top-six.
They will look to strengthen their squad and Victory could be a solid addition to the defence. His aerial presence and defensive positioning are qualities the Light Blues could do with in a defender, and the opportunity to play for such a club could appeal to the Nigerian.
