The
Ultimate Fighting Championship returns this weekend in one of
the rare moments where they won’t have the biggest mixed martial
arts card going on that day, and now its
UFC Vegas 117 card is official following the weigh-ins.
Headlining the 13-fight event is a featherweight scrap between
contenders Arnold
Allen and Melquizael
Costa. Both men successfully made weight for the five-round
main event. The rest of the card also hit their contracted weights,
so there was no drama at the weigh-ins.
This is a must-win fight for Allen (20-4) if he hopes to stay a
relevant factor near the top of 145 pounds. “Almighty” has come up
short in three of his last four fights, as he dropped decisions to
Max
Holloway, Movsar
Evloev and Jean Silva.
While a win over Giga
Chikadze showed he isn’t washed, it’s undeniably been a
disappointing stretch for the English fighter, as he started his
UFC career with 10 straight wins. Allen weighed 145 pounds on the
dot for his third UFC main event.
Brazil’s Costa (26-7) is looking to earn the biggest win yet of his
career. “The Dalmatian” is on an impressive six-fight win streak
inside the Octagon with highlight-reel knockouts of Morgan
Charriere and Dan Ige coming
most recently. Just 29, Costa is looking to cement himself as a
contender and weighed 145.5 pounds.
UFC Vegas 117 will stream in its entirety on Paramount+ on
Saturday. The main card starts at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT, while the
prelims begin at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.
