Death of Stuart Cramer baseball coach postpones NCHSAA playoff game

LAWNDALE — Tragic circumstances have forced the postponement of the NCHSAA 4A West regional semifinal pitting Southern Piedmont 2A/3A/4A rivals Stuart Cramer and Burns to Saturday, May 16.

Approximately 30 minutes ahead of first pitch, Stuart Cramer assistant coach Casey McMIllen suffered a medical emergency as the Storm prepared for Friday’s scheduled matchup in Lawndale. Medical personnel were called to the scene, but CPR and other attempts to revive McMillen were unsuccessful.

Officials from both schools met following the incident, where they made the decision to postpone their playoff matchup until Saturday at 7 p.m.

“Please continue to pray for the Stuart Cramer community during this time,” Burns High School baseball’s Facebook account said. “We will compete between the lines, but how you treat each other outside of the lines is paramount.”

Such comes as Stuart Cramer (21-5) is in the midst of its first 20-win campaign in its 13 years of existence, as well as its deepest postseason run in program history.
