Before the Washington Huskies host three-star Orem High School standout edge rusher Jag Ioane at the end of May for an official visit, a pair of assistant coaches made an in-home visit with the coveted Utah prospect.
Ioane, who has no relation to four-star UW defensive tackle commit Jon Ioane, turned heads as a junior with 31 total tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 2 forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a pass breakup over 10 games for Orem. The Huskies became the first of what proved to be 11 programs to offer the 6-foot-2, 185-pound defender.
Prior to the slew of schools that joined the hunt since last December, a pair of in-state programs, BYU and Utah, were the first two offers out for Ioane. Both have official visits scheduled with the three-star recruit, with the Cougars getting him on campus June 11-13 and the Utes having the final say from June 19-21.
UW will host the No. 16-ranked prospect from the state of Utah and the No. 99-ranked edge, based on 247Sports’ rankings, from May 29-June 1, one of 12 official visitors scheduled for the final weekend in May and one of seven who aren’t committed at this point.

Before UW defensive line coach Jason Kaufusi and outside linebackers coach Aaron Van Horn made an in-home visit to see Ioane on Monday, the three-star edge also hosted coaches from Boise State, BYU, and Utah between April and May.
Despite his slender size, playing at well under 200 pounds, Ioane has incredible instincts to time the snap and jump off the line of scrimmage to make an impact. The Utah native is certainly a speed edge rusher as a standup outside linebacker, but he can also play with his hand in the dirt as a defensive end against the run.
Ioane is one of two uncommitted edge rushers scheduled to visit UW the weekend of May 29, alongside three-star Josh Christensen, while three-star edge Troy Mailo out of Mullen High School in Denver, Colorado, will also make the trip to the Emerald City June 19.
With two defensive line verbal commits in the ’27 class—Jon Ioane from Tustin High School and three-star Mater Dei defensive lineman Matamatagi Uiagalelei— already locked in and limited remaining spots in this year’s cycle, it’s shaping up to be a case of first-come, first secured with Ioane squarely in focus.
