The weather may have cooled down a little bit, but the Huskers are still hot as they defeated the Grand Canyon Lopes to go 2-0 on the weekend so far and put themselves in the Regional Final tomorrow.
Today’s game went about the same way that yesterday’s did, minus having to comeback, as they couldn’t get the bats going early, but scored 2 runs, in the top of the 5th, to get the W and send them to the finals. They probably want to try and do the opposite tomorrow though and get those bats going as quick as they can.
These two games against South Dakota and Grand Canyon could’ve been for sure run-rule games, but since they have struggled a little, and the other teams have played some good D, the Huskers have had to play 2 full games.
They might get a little help tonight as storms are supposed to be pushing through the Lincoln area and could delay the 2 other games today. This means whoever we play will have even less rest than us then they already do.
The other 3 teams remaining: South Dakota, Grand Canyon, and Louisville all get to beat up on each other for the rest of the day while the Huskers get about 24 hours to rest so the schedule couldn’t have worked out better for the Huskers. This is just the cherry on top with the storm potential as well.
The big story from today’s game, other than them making the Regional Final, is none other than Jordy Frahm beating her career best in strikeouts in a game. Her old record stood at 14. She pitched a complete game today, only giving up 1 hit, and striking out 16 batters. She pitched 11 straight strikes at one point today. Congrats to her!
Bella Bacon got some hitting in today as she took Emmerson Cope’s spot in the lineup that she had held for a couple games. Bacon went 1-2 with her only on base being a walk.
Alexis Jensen didn’t see any action today, but stayed warm out in the bullpin during the game for a little bit. She will most likely be pitching tomorrows game and Revelle wanted to save her for tomorrow completely.
The only scoring in the game took place in the 5th inning when Bacon was walked, and Kennadi Williams came in to pinch run for her. Lauren Camenzind hit a SAC bunt to send Bacon to 2nd. Frahm reached on fielders choice after that, but Williams would be out at 2nd.
Hannah Coor came in as the game saver once again as she hit an RBI triple to open up the scoring and send Frahm home to score. Hannah Camenzind came up to bat next and was able to score Coor, unearned, as she hit a ball that should’ve been an easy out for Lopes, but 1B Emily Gonzalez bobbled it and allowed Camenzind on base.
Hannah Camenzind thought she had the opening to reach 2nd, but that closed quickly and she couldn’t make it back first without being tagged out. These 2 runs would be the game winners. This was basically a repeat of last nights game as well.
The Huskers will have to wait and see who they get tomorrow as the remaining teams will battle it out for that last spot in the final with Nebraska. Whoever the Huskers end up playing will have to beat Nebraska twice if they want to take the Lincoln Regional. The Huskers are the only undefeated team remaining.
