Pro Bowl cornerback Christian Gonzalez posted a message on Instagram before it was confirmed that the New England Patriots would be opening the 2026 regular season on the road in Week 1 in a Super Bowl LX rematch against the Seattle Seahawks.
Gonzalez included an hourglass with the image of himself walking off the field at Levi Stadium last season after the Patriots dropped a 29-13 loss to the Seahawks. The star cornerback was clearly one of the best players on the field, helping New England’s defense limit All-Pro wide receiver Jaxon-Smith Njigba to only four catches for 27 yards.
Is Gonzalez counting down the time to run it back with the Seahawks, or is he simply anticipating the start of the season, period, with the hopes of getting back to the Super Bowl?

Gonzalez is one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL, and the Patriots will have to lean on his talents to overcome one of the toughest schedules in the league.
He’ll be entering the fourth year of his rookie contract. The Patriots picked up his fifth-year option, which at least secures his roster spot through the 2027 season. This could be an opportunity for the 23-year-old cornerback to make an even greater case to be a player who resets the market at his position in a future contract extension.
