The Detroit Pistons don’t want to start thinking ahead. They’ve got a Game 7 on Sunday to try and keep their NBA playoff run alive.

But whenever the postseason ends for Detroit, the Pistons may need to consider adding another star alongside Cade Cunningham, and that means they could be active on the trade market.

The two names circulating at the moment are Trey Murphy III and Lauri Markkanen.

They aren’t exactly the same player type, so in one move or the other, the Pistons would be filling one role but potentially leaving another one a bit less solved.

Murphy, from the New Orleans Pelicans, is a phenomenal 3-point shooter, a lanky defender and a superb athlete. He would give the Pistons a star on the wing.

Markkanen is taller, more of an interior player defensively but a great shooter on offense who can space the floor. He plays for the on-the-rise Utah Jazz, but maybe he doesn’t fit their timeline enough to keep around.

The Pistons have shown in this postseason that they have intriguing depth, but they haven’t gotten enough secondary production from Jalen Duren to convince them that they don’t need another star.

So keep an eye on the Pistons in trade rumors. They’ll want to win more games first, but that future of change may be coming.
