NEW YORK — The Mets continue to take punches over the course of the 2026 season but they seem to finally be able to mount a response.
One night after losing Clay Holmes to a fractured leg, the Mets saw an opening with a Carlos Rodon error and then tacked on with three RBI from Mark Vientos in a 6-3 win over the Yankees.
The Mets have a chance to take the first installment of the Subway Series against the Yankees at 1:40 p.m. Sunday at Citi Field.
For the Mets offense, Juan Soto appears to be heating up. He enters Sunday’s game having reached base in six straight plate appearances, including a home run, two singles and three walks. Meanwhile, Carson Benge tallied three hits on Saturday and Brett Baty has three hits and driven in two runs in the Subway Series.
Freddy Peralta will be looking to grab his third straight victory in his Subway Series debut. He is 3-3 with a 3.10 ERA and has turned in quality starts in two of his last three outings, including last time out when he held the Tigers to two earned runs in six innings.
The Yankees will have right-handed rookie Elmer Rodriguez on the mound, making his third career start. He is 0-1 with a 5.19 ERA early in his career.
