Welcome to the best two words in sports. “Game Seven”. Detroit put together two good and convincing wins in Game 1 and Game 2. Cleveland then ran off three consecutive wins. Two in Cleveland and one in Detroit. The Pistons then returned the favor by grabbing a road victory in Cleveland in a possible elimination Game 6.

The series heads back to Detroit for the final game one way or another. The winner will move onto face a Knicks team that is likely to be favored no matter who wins this game between Cleveland and Detroit.

In the games Cleveland won, a few things were true. The team got great production from Mitchell and Harden. In those wins for Cleveland, the scoring distribution was almost entirely Cade Cunningham. The recipe for success is simple. 50+ from Mitchell and Harden while keeping Cunningham human for Cleveland. Or get significant production from anyone not named Cunningham and keep of the Cavs backcourt from scoring in volume for Detroit.

In Game 6, the Pistons got ‘all-star’ Jalen Duren back for the first time in this series. He wasn’t hurt or missing, but in the first 5 games of this series Duren was almost a non-factor. If Cleveland can get a good game from four of their five starters and they shoot a ‘reasonable’ percentage from three, they could be in this game late. If Detroit can control the rebounding (as they’ve done most of this series) and Duren, Duncan Robinson or Tobias Harris can be a major factor, Detroit could wrap this up before the clock reads 0:00.
