The New England Patriots have long been expected to acquire A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles, and June 1 is a date to keep an eye on.

After June 1, it makes far more sense for the Eagles to trade Brown, and for the last month or so, insiders have said it is likely he ends up with the Patriots. It is where Brown wants to be, and many believe some framework of a deal is already in place. The two sides are just waiting on the calendar to flip to June.

The compensation for Brown is still unknown, but most experts predict a first-round pick will be involved. During an appearance on 97.5 The Fanatic’s “Middays With Marks”, senior NFL insider Jeremy Fowler commented on the compensation.

“My best guess is they probably already agreed to something loosely,” Fowler said. “They can always tweak that or rework it. They’re probably getting a (first round pick), maybe a future (first rounder), maybe it’s a 2028. I don’t think they’ll get more than that. I think that will be the max at this point.”

Trading a first-round pick for any player is a huge commitment and potential risk. The Patriots would also be taking on the remainder of Brown’s contract. However, coming off a run to the Super Bowl, the team likely feels like now is the time to make a real push and acquire a star receiver like Brown.

Stefon Diggs had a 1,000-yard season last year, coming off an ACL tear. He also did not have a proven No. 2 receiver to draw attention from defenses. Brown is a better receiver than Diggs already, and will have Romeo Doubs alongside him. Doubs became one of Jordan Love’s go-to receivers in Green Bay, despite the offensive philosophy being to spread the ball around.
