Jon Jones: MVP promotion ‘was actually better than the UFC’

Jon Jones continues to poke at the UFC as he tries to get out of his contract.

Former two-division UFC champion Jones served as an analyst for this past Saturday’s Rousey vs. Carano event at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, Calif. He was called out by Francis Ngannou after “The Predator” knocked out Philipe Lins in Round 1.

Jones expressed interest in fighting Ngannou under the MVP banner and appears hopeful despite being locked into a UFC deal. He lauded MVP’s production and even rated it higher than the UFC’s.

“I thought the MVP promotion was absolutely unbelievable,” Jones told his publicist (h/t MVP). “I think it was actually better than the UFC. I’ve never been at such a promotion where they had the fog machines and the TVs absolutely everywhere, great fighters. Half the audience came out to see (Nate) Diaz win. Both guys are my close personal friends, so it was bittersweet.”

In the main event, Ronda Rousey made quick work of Gina Carano with her signature armbar, which Jones expected.

“Ronda did absolutely unbelievable,” Jones said. “She did exactly what I thought she would do and won in less than a minute. It was 17 seconds, and I predicted it. Her judo and her jiu-jitsu, I mean she’s put so many years into it. The other girls to this day are still so far behind.”
