Former Buff Jamahl Mosley hired as Pelicans head coach

Former Colorado basketball standout and longtime coach Jamahl Mosley has found his next job in the NBA.

The New Orleans Pelicans hired Mosley to be their next head coach after he spent five seasons as the Orlando Magic head man. He led the Magic to three straight playoff berths.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Mosely will receive a five-year contract with the Pelicans. Mosely’s career record as an NBA head coach across 410 games is 189-221. He takes over for interim James Borrego, who led the team for 70 games following Willie Green’s firing.

Mosley played at Colorado from 1997-2001, earning a third-team All-Big 12 selection in 2000. He went undrafted in the 2001 NBA Draft before going overseas. Mosley started coaching in 2005 with the Denver Nuggets and moved up the ranks until 2021, when he got the lead job with the Magic.

With the Pelicans, Mosley will attempt to build a team around Zion Williamson, Jeremiah Fears, Trey Murphy III and several other young players.
