Ishan Kishan courted controversy at the end of a blockbuster IPL 2026 clash between CSK and SRH on Monday at the Chepauk as he made a ‘whistle podu’ gesture towards the home fans and asked them to leave the ground after SRH beat the hosts by five wickets to book their berth in the playoffs. 

Kishan played a match-winning knock of 70 runs in 47 balls, as SRH chased down 181 runs target set by CSK, with an over to spare.

‘Whistle Podu’ or ‘Blow the whistle’ is the famous catchphrase for the CSK franchise since their inception in 2008 and it is a very dear slogan for the loyalists at Chepauk.

Fans react strongly to Ishan Kishan’s controversial gesture

A section of the CSK fans were not pleased to see Kishan’s gesture and found it rude towards the local crowd, as they slammed the Indian wicket-keeper batter on social media platforms.

Despite all the criticism, Kishan was in no mood to back out as he took to social media to once again taunt the Chepauk crowd and celebrate his team’s win.

Hours after the match was over, Kishan took to his Instagram profile and uploaded an image of him from the game, and wrote in the caption: “Only thing louder than the whistles was the bat. Into the playoffs.”
