Walsall have announced Terry Connor will leave their coaching staff when his contract expires in the summer.

The former Wolves boss, 63, joined the Saddlers on a short-term basis in November to cover for assistant manager Gary Waddock who had to undergo ankle surgery.

He then returned to the Pallet-Track Stadium three months later when Waddock left to become Wealdstone’s new manager.

Following the sacking of Mat Sadler in March, Connor remained part of Darren Byfield’s coaching staff, when the former Saddlers striker was appointed head coach until the end of the season.

Connor’s pending departure follows that of Byfield, who left the club following the appointment of former Huddersfield boss Lee Grant as the new permanent head coach.

In a statement, Walsall said Connor had shown “true dedication” in his time at the club and his experience had been “invaluable to everyone both on and off the pitch”.

The club added further appointments to the coaching staff under Grant would be made “in due course”.
