London City Lionesses midfielder Marcetto dealt long-term injury blow

London City Lionesses midfielder Malou Marcetto is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with the player having sustained a Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Pride this evening.

The 23-year-old Danish youth international sustained her double-injury in the second half of London City Lionesses’ Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Aston Villa at The Copperjax Community Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Marcetto came onto the pitch as a second half substitute but lasted just 20 minutes before she had to leave the pitch with her injuries.

Marcetto’s injuries have now been fully-assessed by the London City Lionesses medical team along with a specialist and unfortunately, it is bad news with the player having injured both her Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) and Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). Marcetto will now undergo a period of rehabilitation before undergoing surgery. The Dane is likely to miss the vast majority of the 2026/2027 season.

Marcetto joined London City Lionesses from Madrid CFF in February. She is contracted to the club until summer 2028. The player is very much seen as one for the future as London City Lionesses continue their bid to become one of the top sides in England.
