‘He has heart, hunger, and fearlessness’: LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka hails Prince Yadav after maiden India call-up for Afghanistan series

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka welcomed Prince Yadav’s maiden India call-up on Tuesday after the pacer was named in the ODI squad for the upcoming series against Afghanistan.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced squads for the one-off Test and three-match ODI series against Afghanistan, both scheduled to be played in India in June.

Prince, who has taken 16 wickets for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2026, earned his first ODI call-up after impressing with his pace and accuracy during the season.

After the squad announcement, Goenka praised the young fast bowler in a post on X.

“Delighted to see Prince Yadav earn his maiden ODI call-up for India. His rise this IPL season has been a joy to witness,” Goenka wrote, adding, “He has the heart, the hunger, and the fearlessness to take on the best. This is just the beginning. Congratulations, Prince. I’m proud of you, and so is LSG. Make India proud.”

India will play the one-off Test against Afghanistan from June 6, followed by a three-match ODI series from June 14 to June 20.

Shubman Gill will lead India in both formats. KL Rahul has been named vice-captain in the Test side, replacing Rishabh Pant, while Shreyas Iyer will serve as vice-captain in the ODI team.

Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has been rested for the Test match. Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar and Harsh Dubey were included in the Test squad as new faces.

The squad announcement was made by the Men’s Selection Committee headed by Ajit Agarkar, along with Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha, in the presence of BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.

In the ODI squad, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli return to the top order, while Ishan Kishan has been picked as the second wicketkeeper.

India’s ODI squad also includes all-rounders Hardik Pandya, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Washington Sundar. The spin attack will be led by Kuldeep Yadav, while the pace unit features Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Prince Yadav and Gurnoor Brar.
