The Big Ten baseball tournament began on Tuesday, with the No. 12 seeded Spartans playing against the No. 5 seeded Purdue Boilermakers. Michigan State was able to defeat the Boilermakers, 8-4, en route to the opening round win. With the opening round win, the Spartans are just one win away from moving on to the single elimination portion of the tournament.
Now, with Iowa defeating Illinois 10-6, it will be the Spartans and Hawkeyes squaring off for a right to play USC in the tournament’s quarterfinal round. This will be the fourth meeting between the two teams this season, with MSU getting the better of Iowa in two of the three matchups.
The second game will be on Wednesday at approximately 6 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
