Following the 2026 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos took to the undrafted free-agent process and signed the brother of a player already on the team.
Dane Key, one of four undrafted wide receivers signed by the team after the draft, is the younger brother of safety Devon Key. Also undrafted, Devon has been with the Broncos since 2022 and has 61 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble as he has worked his way up the ranks.
Can his brother join him on the team?
Name: Dane Key
Position: Wide Receiver
School: Nebraska
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 210
Key comes to Denver as a potential big-bodied target and that size makes him one of the more interesting players in this year’s crop of undrafted additions. He has good hands and shows himself to be above-average as a route runner.
Key began his college career at Kentucky before transferring to Nebraska for his final season. He caught 165 passes for 2,322 yards and 19 touchdowns in college, which are solid numbers.
Denver Gazette talks to Nebraska WR Dane Key, who is “so excited” to join the #Broncos and be teammates with brother Devon Key. “Until now, I’ve never played on the same team as my brother or ever even played against him.” He’s confident in making team: https://t.co/bzAN9WwD7c

He will be one of 13 wide receivers on the Broncos’ 90-man roster this summer, but he should get his chances to turn heads early and be a player to keep an eye in camp and preseason games.
Chance to make final 53-man roster (1-10 scale): 2
It’s going to be quite difficult for any undrafted receiver to make this year’s squad unless the Broncos decide to make a trade involving Troy Franklin, Marvin Mims Jr. or Pat Bryant.
However, Key should get looks as a player who can use his size on the boundary or in the red zone to make an impact, which would make him a priority signing to the practice squad, so long as he cleared waivers.
Broncos will have to wait nearly all season for revenge in ‘most intriguing’ game
Having his brother, Devon, at his side only helps his case. Devon had to work his way through the practice squad after playing for both the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons before coming to Denver. Though he’s still on the back end of the Broncos’ roster as a reserve safety, Devon has a fairly stable spot on the team. But being able to learn and gain insight from his brother’s grind works strongly in Dane’s favor.
