Even at the age of 41, Cristiano Ronaldo is still central to the conversation for Portugal’s international team, and a new business partnership is entering the picture as the tournament looms.
With Ronaldo facing possibly the last World Cup appearance of his playing career, and younger athletes taking on bigger roles on the roster, the team has a new mix of experience and emerging talent. Along with that is more of a focus on tools that help athletes review their training and practice sessions.
So, the Portuguese national team announced a partnership with TORRAS, a consumer tech company that builds tools to help athletes review training sessions. This agreement has come as the country is experiencing one of its stronger qualifying stretches and is looking to keep up that momentum into the World Cup.
At the international level, preparation has become more and more detailed. National teams are spending more time on positioning and small adjustments that have a huge impact on high level matches against the best teams. The best players are doing more work beyond formal training sessions because they want to gain any advantage possible.
This technology partnership reflects the shift in the way teams prepare. It lets the players review their practice performances and similar tools are becoming more widely used in many different sports, not just soccer. With this technology, coaches and players can break down even the smallest movements and spacing so that improvements can be made in decision making and execution between matches.
The margins at the highest level continue getting smaller. Talent remains important, but preparation and consistency often separate contenders from the rest of the field during major tournaments. Portugal has spent years building one of the deeper squads in international soccer, and the focus now is maintaining structure while continuing to develop younger contributors around veteran leaders like Ronaldo.
With the 2026 World Cup getting closer, Portugal appears focused on improving every part of the process both on and off the field.
