Chinese striking sensation Liu “Spirit Dragon” Mengyang has taken ONE Championship by storm since making his promotional debut in late 2024, establishing himself as one of the most exciting and dangerous featherweight kickboxers on the planet.
The 23-year-old Shunyuan Fight Club product carries a remarkable 35-7 career record, backed by explosive counter-punching and seemingly endless stamina. His ability to dismantle big names has earned him a reputation as a genuine legend killer.
Now, the Chinese star is set for another high-profile outing. On Friday, May 22, in Asia primetime from the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, Liu steps into the ring for a featherweight kickboxing co-main event against Venezuela’s Gabriel Pereira at The Inner Circle, streaming exclusively on live.onefc.com.
Liu was originally slated to challenge reigning ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Champion Superbon for the title, but an injury forced the Thai megastar out of the contest. The Chinese wrecking ball must still remain sharp and ready, because a World Title opportunity is never far away.
Before Liu faces Pereira, let’s revisit the journey that has brought “Spirit Dragon” to the cusp of ONE Championship gold.
Shocked The World On Debut Against Kickboxing Icon Noiri
Liu could not have asked for a more daunting introduction to the global stage. His promotional debut at ONE Friday Fights 92 in December 2024 came against Masaaki Noiri, a former two-division K-1 Champion and a legend of Japanese kickboxing. Almost every pundit and fan expected Noiri to handle the Chinese newcomer with ease.
Nobody told Liu that.
The 23-year-old came out firing from the first exchange, stunning the crowd when a powerful right hand dropped Noiri for the first knockdown just 20 seconds into the opening round. Rather than fading after that explosive start, Liu pressed forward throughout, battering his Japanese opponent with thudding strikes while efficiently neutralizing Noiri’s attacks across all three rounds.
When the final bell rang, the judges had no hesitation in awarding Liu a unanimous decision victory. It was the biggest win of his career and a statement that resonated across the entire featherweight kickboxing division.
Engaged In A Fierce War With Iranian Powerhouse Siasarani
Buoyed by the biggest win of his career, Liu entered his sophomore ONE outing as the favorite. Iranian powerhouse Mohammad Siasarani, however, arrived with a very different script in mind.
The 23-year-old Team Mehdi Zatout standout refused to give Liu a moment’s comfort, standing his ground and unloading heavy combinations throughout all three rounds in a fiercely contested affair.
When the final bell sounded, the judges awarded Siasarani a split-decision victory, snapping Liu’s 21-fight winning streak in the process.
It was a sobering setback, but one that would prove to be the making of the Chinese star.
Bounced Back With Statement Win Over Shadow
Liu wasted no time responding to adversity. He returned to the ring in September 2025 at ONE Friday Fights 126 to face an in-form and dangerous Thai warrior in Shadow Mavinn, who arrived on the back of a six-fight winning streak and was making his promotional kickboxing debut.
The first round was a competitive exchange, with both men landing clean shots. Then, Liu shifted the momentum decisively, dropping Shadow with a piston-like punch combination that sent the Thai warrior down for an eight-count. Shadow beat the count and showed tremendous heart to continue, but Liu’s kickboxing experience and ring generalship proved too much over the remaining rounds.
After three rounds of action, the judges awarded Liu the unanimous decision win. “Spirit Dragon” was back and better than ever.
The Leg Kick That Made Liu World Famous
The finest moment of Liu’s young career arrived in the final event of 2025 at ONE Friday Fights 137, when he shared the ring with reigning ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion Tawanchai PK Saenchai in a kickboxing war. It was the kind of matchup that defines careers.
Tawanchai, one of the most feared strikers, made his intentions clear early, rocking Liu with a monstrous push kick. Liu absorbed it, fired back with a sharp right hand, and let his rival know the night would not go as planned.
What followed stunned every combat sports fan watching around the world. Liu began targeting Tawanchai’s leg with punishing kicks, each one more damaging than the last. The fourth landed flush and the Thai superstar crumpled to the canvas, unable to answer the referee’s count.
Liu won via TKO at just 52 seconds, toppling one of the greatest strikers on the planet with a masterclass in leg kick warfare. The result did not just announce Liu as a world-class talent. It cemented his place as the rightful challenger for Superbon’s ONE Featherweight Kickboxing World Title.
