Sandusky Run for Life returns in June with new youth race

Residents will once again have the chance June 27 to lace up their running shoes for the 8th annual Sandusky Run for Life 1 Mile and 5K Run/Walk.

The event is organized by Right to Life of Sanilac and will be held on the Diamond Trail during the Sandusky Thumb Festival, according to a community announcement. Races are scheduled to begin at 8 a.m., with registration and packet pickup starting at 7 a.m. under the pavilion on the trail.

Youth category added for 2026

A new youth category is being introduced this year for the 1‑mile run or walk. According to the announcement, participants 17 and younger may register for $10, and awards will be presented to the top three boys and girls in that division.

Adult registration for the 5K and 1‑mile events is $25 per participant through May 31, increasing to $30 after that date. Same‑day registration will be available for $35, according to the announcement.

Race details and awards

Shirts may be ordered through June 22, though availability is not guaranteed for registrations completed after that date, according to the announcement. Age‑group awards will be presented to first‑ through third‑place finishers in the 5K run. The top three male and female finishers in both the 1‑mile and 5K walk events will also receive awards.

All participants will receive a race bib, event T‑shirt, swag bag, finisher medal, online race photos and official timing.

Course and logistics

The 1‑mile event will take place entirely on the Diamond Trail. The 5K course will include city streets and gravel roads before finishing on the trail. The race will be held rain or shine, according to the announcement.

Parking will be available at Maple Valley Elementary School, 138 Maple Valley St., as well as at the Diamond Trail. Organizers noted that new restrooms are now available on site.

Timing for the event will be provided by Miller Race Management.

Participants may register online at runsignup.com. Paper mail‑in registration forms are available at rtlsc.com. Donations may also be made through the online registration page.
