Nine games that won Arsenal the 2025/26 Premier League title
Arsenal 1-1 Manchester City (Sunday, September 21, 2025)
After their timid 1-0 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in the third game of the season, all eyes were on how Arsenal would cope against another of their presumed title rivals. Erling Haaland gave City an early lead on the counter-attack, but the most notable aspect of this game was the extent to which Arsenal dominated most of the play and pushed City back into an unfamiliar defensive shell. As laudable as that was, it would have counted for nought had Gabriel Martinelli not produced a superb, looping finish to snatch a point in stoppage time. It is a result that looms large in the final analysis.
Newcastle 1-2 Arsenal (Sunday, September 28, 2025)
Another tough assignment at St. James’ Park came a week after the City game. With four minutes remaining, Arteta’s men were staring at dropping more points on account of Nick Woltemade’s first-half goal, but Mikel Merino nodded home to level matters and Gabriel scored a signature header from a corner in the 96th minute. A huge moment.
Arsenal 4-1 Tottenham (Sunday, November 23, 2025)
The Newcastle win was the first of five in succession for Arsenal, ending with a 2-2 draw at Sunderland. What better way to get back on the horse than by hammering your beleaguered local rivals? It was made even sweeter by Eberechi Eze, a Tottenham transfer target before he opted for Arsenal, scoring the first hat-trick in this fixture since Alan Sunderland in 1978.
Arsenal 4-1 Aston Villa (Tuesday, December 30, 2025)
Aston Villa headed to Emirates Stadium for their final match of 2025 on an 11-game winning run that included a 2-1 win over Arsenal 24 days earlier. Following a keenly contested first half that Villa probably shaded, Gabriel and Martin Zubimendi scored within seven minutes of the restart and Arteta’s men did not look back.
Leeds 0-4 Arsenal (Saturday, January 31, 2026)
Perhaps Arsenal’s most completely authoritative win of the season. Leeds, under Daniel Farke, had turned their form around and were moving away from relegation trouble. Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea have all dropped points at a hostile Elland Road this season, but they never had a sniff after Zubimendi’s 27th-minute opener here. Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres and Gabriel Jesus also got in on the act. The following day, Manchester City threw away a 2-0 lead to draw with an embattled Tottenham, giving it the feeling of a big weekend.
Tottenham 1-4 Arsenal (Sunday, February 22, 2026)
Draws with Wolves and Brentford left the door ajar for City, meaning nerves were palpable heading into the return north London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs’ state of ongoing shambles ultimately played into Arsenal’s hands, though. Randal Kolo Muani scored a first-half equaliser following a Declan Rice error, but the gulf in class was palpable throughout as Eze and Gyokeres each netted doubles.
Arsenal 2-0 Everton (Saturday, March 14, 2026)
One of several grim slogs to endure at the Emirates over recent months, but a lapse from Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford allowed Gyokeres to break the deadlock in the 89th minute. As the visitors, including Pickford seeking to make amends, piled forward for an equaliser, teenage sensation Max Dowman enjoyed a picture-book title-race moment. Having already supplied the cross for Gyokeres, the 16-year-old was allowed to charge upfield and seal the point. City were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham later that day, a result that ultimately left them with too much to do.
Arsenal 1-0 Newcastle (Saturday, April 25, 2026)
April took the wind out of Arsenal. Southampton shocked them in the FA Cup, Bournemouth won at a nerve-riddled Emirates and City claimed a stirring 2-1 victory over the Gunners at the Etihad Stadium to close up the title race. Nothing but a win would do against Newcastle the following weekend. After Eze scored a brilliant early opener, the match was one to endure rather than enjoy from that point, but full-time brought a great release.
West Ham 0-1 West Ham (Sunday, May 10, 2026)
The game that effectively sealed the deal. West Ham, fighting against relegation, should have led through Matheus Fernandes, only for David Raya to burnish his player-of-the-season credentials. Leandro Trossard scored decisively before the late drama of Callum Wilson’s VAR disallowed equaliser. It left City with no more scope to falter. Nine days later, they did, and Arsenal were champions.
