A new NBA mock draft was released by ESPN Tuesday, featuring two former Duke Blue Devils in the first round. The first was, of course, last year’s Wooden Award winner Cameron Boozer, who is projected to go No. 3 overall to the Memphis Grizzlies after averaging 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, 4.1 assists and 1.4 steals during his freshman season.
Next was sharpshooter Isaiah Evans, who was projected to go to the Detroit Pistons with the No. 21 overall selection. Evans impressed during his sophomore campaign with Duke, leading the team in three-pointers made while shooting over 36% from beyond the arc. During the year, he averaged 15 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 0.7 steals. Considering the Pistons ranked tied for 29th in 3-pointers made per game, they could use Evans’ shooting on the perimeter.
After four seasons in college, two of which he spent at Duke, Maliq Brown was not included on ESPN’s latest mock draft. Unlike new transfer addition John Blackwell, Brown will not be eligible to return to school. Currently, Brown ranks 82nd on ESPN’s NBA Draft big board after the combine. However, it’s worth noting that 82nd may not be the best representation of his true ranking, as many collegiate prospects ranked ahead of him have already withdrawn from draft consideration.
