Arsenal will offer manager Mikel Arteta a lucrative new contract that will see him become one of the best-paid managers in the world, according to The Guardian. The Gunners boss has led the Emirates Stadium club to their first Premier League title since 2004. Arsenal finished the last three seasons as runner-ups but have finally got over the line after leading the way for most of the campaign. Arteta is now expected to be offered a large salary increase which could come close to matching the Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s wage. The Argentine is the world’s best-paid manager, earning around £26 million a year.
The Arsenal boss earns about £10m a season plus a £5m bonus for reaching the Champions League. He could now be earning more than Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, who makes £20m a year. Talks over extending Arteta’s deal beyond next summer were put on hold while the Gunners concentrated on winning the title. Their triumph came last night after Bournemouth held Man City to a 1-1 draw. They are now looking forward to playing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League final at Budapest on May 30. Arsenal have never won the elite European competition and will make history with victory over the Ligue 1 club.
Arteta deserves to be rewarded with a new and improved deal after turning the fortunes of the club around since his arrival in December 2019.
