Ohio State baseball drops Big Ten Tournament opener to Washington

Ohio State, the No. 6 seed, was upset by No. 11-seed Washington in the opening round of the Big Ten baseball tournament on May 19 in Omaha, Nebraska.

Tied 6-6 in the top of the ninth inning with two outs and two runners on, Ohio State pitcher Lincoln McVicker forced Washington’s Mic Paul to hit a pop fly behind home plate, but OSU catcher Mason Eckelman was unable to hold on to the ball.

One pitch after the error, Paul tripled, scoring both runners.

Ohio State had one more chance as the home team but stranded one runner on base in the bottom of the ninth.

The Buckeyes match up against No. 10 Rutgers, which got one hit in a 10-0 shutout loss to No. 7 Michigan. Ohio State lost the three-game season series to the Scarlet Knights, but won the first game 8-0.
